About Ozen

Ozen is a free, open-source app that writes what people around you say as captions on your phone. It's made by an independent developer in Israel. It isn't offered by, or connected to, any government body, hospital or company.

Ozen is still in early testing and isn't in the app stores yet. It may change, or stop being available, at any time. By using this website or the app, you agree to these terms.

Safety: please read this

Not a medical device

Ozen is not a medical device and not a hearing aid. It doesn't diagnose, treat, measure or monitor any condition, and it doesn't replace care from a doctor, an audiologist or another professional.

Captions can be wrong

Speech recognition makes mistakes, especially with background noise, accents, several people talking at once, names, numbers, and medical, legal or technical words. Don't rely on Ozen when a missed or wrong word could cause harm. If it matters, ask the person to repeat it or write it down.

Not a certified alarm

Ozen's alerts for your name, a doorbell, a smoke alarm or a siren can be late, can be missed, and can be wrong. They depend on what the phone's microphone can hear, and on its settings, battery and volume. Never use Ozen as your only way to know about a fire, smoke, gas, a siren or any emergency.

Keep the official alerts on

  • In Israel, install the official Home Front Command app, turn on its alert option for people who are deaf or hard of hearing, and keep the phone's emergency alerts turned on. Official site: oref.org.il.
  • Use certified smoke alarms with a flashing light or a vibrating alert, made for people who are deaf or hard of hearing.

No warranty

Ozen and this website are provided "as is", without any promise that they will work, be accurate, be available or suit your needs. You use them at your own risk, and you're responsible for having other ways to stay safe and to communicate.

To the fullest extent the law allows, the Ozen project isn't liable for any loss, injury or damage that comes from using Ozen or this website, or from not being able to use them. Nothing in these terms limits any liability that the law doesn't allow to be limited.

Licence

The Ozen app is free software under the GNU Affero General Public License 3.0. Its sections 15 and 16, which also exclude warranty and liability, apply as well. The parts this website is built from are listed on the licences page.

The name Ozen

"Ozen" and its icon are the project's name and logo. Their use doesn't mean that any authority or organisation endorses Ozen.

Problems and security issues

To report a bug, a safety problem or a security issue, email arbelonson@gmail.com or open an issue on GitHub. Issues on GitHub are public, so please email security issues instead.

Changes

We may update these terms. The date at the top shows the latest change, and earlier versions are kept in the site's public history.

Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Israel, and the courts in Israel have jurisdiction. This doesn't take away any rights you have under the consumer laws of the place where you live.
